Whether youโre hosting a summer barbecue, looking for a tasty lunch, or a simple first course, this tomato, avocado, and burrata salad is an ideal choice.
Today I’m sharing a salad that makes an appearance on our table at least two times a week: This deliciously healthy Burrata Tomato Avocado Salad. My husband is the main instigator when it comes to making it. It’s a riff on this long-time favorite Avocado Tomato and Onion Salad we first ate at this popular Los Angeles Cuban restaurant. These days, my man doctors it up depending on what we have on hand, and lately, he’s been sure to always have burrata at the ready. Paired with sweet Campari tomatoes, creamy avocado, and mellow red onion, this salad passes on the typical caprese-ish balsamic drizzle in favor of mellow champagne vinegar. My husband prefers seasoned rice vinegar. You do you and choose your own fave. Topped with torn fresh herbs like basil or mint and this salad is the bombโa literal cheese bomb, that is.

What Is Burrata Cheese
First things first, letโs talk about the star of this salad: burrata cheese. If you’re a FoodieCrush regular, you know I have a soft spot for my creamy soft burrata recipes. But if youโve never tried burrata before, youโre in for a treat. Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese thatโs made from mozzarella and cream. It has a soft, buttery texture and a rich, creamy flavor that pairs perfectly with the fresh ingredients in this salad.
What’s In This Burrata Tomato Salad With Avocado
This tomato salad is more of an act in layering and assembling than dressing and tossing. That’s what makes it a quick lunch or weeknight winner because it comes together so quick. Serve it in individual bowls or all together on one platter.
To make this salad, youโll need:
- Burrata cheese
- Campari tomatoes, or other sweet tomato
- Avocado
- Red onion
- Fresh basil leaves, mint, dill, or tarragon
- Extra-virgin olive oilโchoose one that’s light and fruity
- Champagne vinegar, red wine vinegar, seasoned rice vinegar, or balsamic
- Kosher salt and pepper to taste
How to Make This Salad
Slice the tomatoes into halves and then quarters. Place them in individual serving bowls or on a platter.
Next, cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and slice the flesh into strips. Arrange the avocado slices on top of the tomatoes.
Cut the onion into paper thin slices. This makes it easier to add more without being overwhelmed by chunky onion bites.
Now itโs time to add the star of the show: the burrata cheese. Drain from the water then tear the burrata ball in half. Place it on top of the avocado and tomato slices.
Sprinkle the fresh basil leaves over everything. Or whichever herbs you’re using.
Drizzle each serving with olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. I sometimes add a sprinkle of Hawaiian finishing salt because I love the sparkling salty flavor bursts it delivers.
Here’s What Makes This Salad Good for You
This salad is not only tasty, but itโs also incredibly good for you.
Letโs start with the tomatoes. Tomatoes are packed with vitamins A and C, as well as potassium and antioxidants. Theyโre also a great source of lycopene, which has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer.
Avocados are another superfood thatโs included in this salad. Theyโre rich in healthy fats and fiber, and theyโre also a great source of vitamins C and K, as well as potassium.
And letโs not forget about the burrata cheese. While cheese isnโt usually considered a health food, burrata is actually a good source of protein and calcium. Plus, the healthy fats in the cheese help your body absorb the nutrients from the other ingredients in the salad.
Olive oil provides more good fat. Not only delicious, fruity extra virgin olive oil’s health benefits have been documented forever.

This is the best salad. I sent it to my sister and she made it the next day. We had it twice in one week. My son made it the second time and he loved it too. I double up on the dressing. And yes, my husband bought 4 balls, in the fridge now!!!
